Environment

39 Essex Chambers has, for decades, been the ‘go to’ set for environmental litigation both domestic and international. Our practitioners have industry expertise in all aspects of environmental law including matters relating to: waste, water, contaminated land, nuisance, chemicals, permitting, natural resources, esg and other issues arising from development. Our barristers are regularly instructed in cases involving the regulatory, commercial, public and private law aspects of environmental litigation.

We act for and against: governments and state-owned entities, major multinationals and independent companies, developers and promoters, debt and equity funders, local authorities, national regulators, specialist contractors and professional services providers.

We litigate, arbitrate and mediate domestic and international disputes. Whilst most of our international work relates to international arbitration we are also home to barristers who have rights of audience in numerous other jurisdictions.
