Civil Liberties and Human Rights

What Our Barristers Do

Civil liberties and the balance between the rights of individuals and the needs of the state have evolved over centuries in the UK through convention, case law and legislation.

We have a long-established commitment to human rights and civil liberties and advise in all types of cases from health, housing and community care to immigration, discrimination and local government.

Our barristers have considerable expertise in bringing and defending claims for damages under the Human Rights Act 1998.

Who Our Barristers Act For

Our clients include central government and other defendant bodies on the one hand and individuals, non-government organisations (NGOs) and not-for-profit organisations on the other.

Where Our Barristers Act

Our barristers regularly appear and advise on human rights issues in judicial review proceedings before the Administrative Court and a range of other courts and tribunals, including the High Court, the Court of Protection, the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal, and the European Court of Human Rights.
