High Court hands down Judgment against “fraudster” former Leeds United managing director David Haigh

19th May 2020

James Ramsden QC, Daniel Benedyk and Robert Dougans have successfully represented GFH in its claim against David Haigh, the former Leeds United managing director. In an important decision marking the first enforcement in the English High Court of a decision of the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts, Mr Justice Henshaw carefully sets out and explains the common law requirements for enforcement of a foreign judgment.

Mr Justice Henshaw found that Mr Haigh had no real prospect of successfully defending an application to enforce the DIFC’s judgment, which had described him as a “fraudster” who had “caused to be paid into his own bank account and that of his close friend monies belonging to the Claimant” in a sustained and sophisticated campaign of dishonesty.
