Contempt of court: James Todd KC and Sadie Crapper secure declaration of contempt in £3m cauda equina fraud against the NHS

29th July 2025

North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust v Kae Burnell-Chambers

In the culmination of two and half years of work in a robustly defended committal action, Mr Jonathan Glasson KC, sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge, found Mrs Kae Burnell-Chambers guilty of contempt of court on plea on 25th July 2025.

James Todd KC led Sadie Crapper working in close liaison with Ruth Day of Capsticks and her team, to prepare the case with forensic scrutiny and clever tactical management until Mrs Burnell-Chambers had no choice but to finally admit her wrongdoing. It is accepted that the custody threshold has been met and Mrs Burnell-Chambers will be sentenced in October.
