Prior to coming to the Bar, Christian gained experience working on the Dame Linda Dobbs Review, an Independent Inquiry considering whether issues relating to HBOS Reading were investigated and appropriately reported to authorities following Lloyds Banking Group’s acquisition of HBOS.
Christian was a two-sport professional athlete (Premiership Rugby and NFL). After the conclusion of his sporting career, Christian worked as a broadcaster for the BBC and talkSPORT whilst undertaking his legal qualifications.
Christian is a member of various sports tribunals and disciplinary panels. In 2023, he was appointed as one of the nine members of the RFU Inclusion and Diversity Panel to tackle inequity in rugby union. He is also a trustee for the national charity Sporting Equals, and an Ambassador for Community Integrated Care.

During the public law seat of pupillage, Christian was supervised by Peter Mant KC, Tom Tabori and Nicola Kohn. He gained experience in a range of public law matters.
His experience included assisting with:
- Drafting grounds of defence to a judicial review challenge against a local authority’s decision to reduce a package of care.
- Assisting Peter Mant KC and Nicola Kohn with an application to intervene in the Supreme Court matter, A Reference by the Attorney General for Northern Ireland, regarding the ability of people lacking capacity to “consent” to a confinement otherwise engaging article 5 ECHR.
- Drafting grounds of defence to a judicial review challenge against a hospital leave policy under s.17 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Drafting detailed grounds on behalf of an Interested Party in a substantive stage judicial review concerning the interpretation of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
- Drafting an OPEN skeleton argument in a Special Immigration Appeals Commission (“SIAC”) appeal against the refusal of an application for naturalisation.
- Advising on whether a GP could lawfully remove a patient from their list of patients.
- Advising on a local community governance review under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.
- Advising on the merits of an application for provisional registration with the General Medical Council.
- Drafting pre-action correspondence in a proposed claim for judicial review challenging a refusal of relocation.
During the planning, environment and property seat of pupillage, Christian was supervised by Celina Colquhoun, Ned Helme and Daniel Stedman Jones.
His experience included assisting with:
- Advising on the merits of a council’s defence at appeal of its decision to refuse to issue a lawful development certificate for the use of land as a caravan site and associated operational development.
- Drafting a skeleton argument and grounds for an application to appeal to the Court of Appeal following substantive hearing in a matter concerning s.78 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
- Drafting grounds of appeal and advising on the prospects of securing residential development under Class Q of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015.
- Advising on the scope of the power under s.8 of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.
- Drafting a skeleton argument in a claim for judicial review challenging a local council’s refusal to issue revised liability notices in respect of liability for the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) under the 2010 Regulations.
- Advising on the merits of an application for judicial review of the decision to grant prior approval under Class A of Part 6 of Schedule 2 of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 2015.
- Drafting pre-action correspondence in a matter concerning the grant of planning permission for the conversion of an existing building to tourist accommodation.
- Drafting pre-action correspondence in an energy matter concerning a disputed non-domestic contract for the supply of gas and electricity.
- Research into the construction and interpretation of tax legislation.
During the civil liability seat of pupillage, Christian was supervised by Daniel Laking and Michael Standing. His experiences spanned personal injury, clinical negligence and costs, including:
- Drafting a Defence and advising on prospects in a personal injury claim brought under the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957.
- Drafting a Defence in a subrogated recovery action for property damage arising from an employer’s vicarious liability, advancing a defence of automatism.
- Advising a local authority on merits and quantum in respect of a highway tripping accident.
- Advising on quantum in a clinical negligence claim brought under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976.
- Research for Judith Ayling KC in a case about whether a doctor owes a duty of care to a non-patient in relation to the accuracy of a relative’s genetic testing.
- Drafting a Defence and advising on consolidation in a personal injury and clinical negligence claim arising from an accident resulting in traumatic brain injury and alleged subsequent negligent treatment.
- Drafting Particulars of Claim in a fatal personal injury matter.
During the commercial and construction seat of pupillage, Christian is currently supervised by David Sawtell KC, Hannah McCarthy and David Hopkins.
