39 Essex Chambers
39 Essex Chambers is a legal services provider. We help our clients by providing legal advice to them and representing them in courts and tribunals. Our staff team support our team of 180 barristers and arbitrators in enabling this to happen. We act for clients domestically and internationally. We have offices in London, Singapore and Malaysia but we are not an enormous organisation. We have a staff team of about 35 people. With smaller teams we really get to know and understand everyone working with us. You will have the opportunity in a smaller team to do a wider range of work and build your experience more widely than you would in a larger organisation.
Our culture is open, supportive and caring. We are friendly and give all of our staff the opportunity to develop and grow on their own path. We trust our staff team with responsibility and are open to everyone’s ideas about their own futures and how to take the business forward.
Whilst we work hard, we believe in a proper work/life balance and we try hard to make sure that work is enjoyable. We communicate openly and socialise together. We have come up with some innovative ways to ensure that this continues in Lockdown and worked hard to make sure that we have understood the needs of everyone in our team and that they have felt supported.
Our London office is in the heart of legal London, on Chancery Lane, close to the Royal Courts of Justice and Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Chambers is easy to get to by tube, train and bus. We have a cycle to work scheme and very modern shower and bike storage facilities.
We are currently recruiting for the following vacancies:
The closing date for applications has now passed. We may not be able to respond to every application individually. You will however receive an automatic reply to your email acknowledging receipt of your application.
Applications will be subject to a paper sift and then a short list of candidates will be invited to interview. If you don’t hear from us, you will not have got through to the interview stage. Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to give feedback at the application stage.
We would like to meet you in person if possible so interviews will be conducted in person at our London office. If this is not possible then we will arrange to conduct the interviews by zoom.
The interview process will be around 2 hours – it will consist of a number of short exercises and then an interview panel. The best way to prepare for the interview is to read the job description and person specification and your application in full. You should also research Chambers and consider why you would like the job and why you want to work for us. Whilst it is a formal process there will be lots of opportunities for you to ask questions and hopefully get a feel for the atmosphere at 39 Essex Chambers.
