Biodiversity and Habitats

What Our Barristers Do

Our expert Biodiversity and Habitats barristers advise and act on matters relating to the legal protection of habitats, species and biodiversity. This may arise in the context of applications for planning permission, development consent orders and other types of environmental permits and licences.

Habitats law represents an important, often decisive, influence on projects, and we are seeing biodiversity offsetting as an emergent area. There is an increasing amount of litigation involving the area.

We work closely with ecologists and specialists in terrestrial and marine habitats.

Who Our Barristers Act For

Our barristers act for the full range of clients in this area, including developers and industrial operators, central government and local authorities, government agencies such as the Environment Agency and Natural England, interest groups and environmental NGOs.

Where Our Barristers Act

Our barristers appear in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, public inquiries, Development Consent Order (DCO) inquiries and before Parliamentary Bill Committees.
