Parole Board and Prisons

What Our Barristers Do

Our prison law and parole board barristers are dedicated to protecting the rights of people held in detention, particularly those who are especially vulnerable such as children, young adults and people with disabilities or mental health issues.

Cases in which we act include challenges to the infringement of prisoners’ rights, including Human Rights Act challenges, decisions involving security categorisation and re-categorisation, access to prison mother and baby units, and damages claims against the Ministry of Justice for discrimination and unlawful detention.

Who Our Barristers Act For

We act for central government and, on occasion, individual prisoners.

Where Our Barristers Act

Our barristers appear in judicial review challenges in the Administrative Court and higher courts, and before parole boards and in adjudication hearings.
