Profile

Alice is building a busy junior practice across all areas of chambers’ expertise, with a focus on personal injury, clinical negligence, and costs. She represents both claimants and defendants, and works with a range of clients including individuals, companies, insurers, and public bodies.

Alice regularly appears in the County Court, and increasingly in the High Court, both led and as sole counsel. She has a growing paperwork and advisory practice.

Prior to joining chambers, Alice worked for the Government Legal Department, advising central government departments including the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office on a range of public, commercial, and civil matters. Alice continues to accept instructions from the Government Legal Department under the Attorney General’s “Junior Junior” scheme.

Before coming to the bar, Alice worked for the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Areas Of Expertise

Alice has a busy public law practice.

During her time working for the Government Legal Department, Alice gained experience on a range of public law matters, including high-profile cases with substantial ministerial interest.

Immigration and Business Immigration

  • Alice advises on a range of public and private law claims arising in an immigration context, including false imprisonment claims, and claims brought under the Human Rights Act 1998.
  • As a pupil, Alice managed a caseload of immigration judicial reviews and statutory appeals for the Home Office. She appeared for the Home Secretary in the Upper Tribunal (Asylum and Immigration Chamber) in two oral permission hearings.
  • Alice assisted with a high-profile judicial review of the then-Home Secretary’s decision to not commission a statutory inquiry into alleged breaches of Article 3 at the Manston arrivals and processing centre.

Tax

  • During pupillage, Alice assisted her supervisor in three tax matters for HMRC, drafting a statement of case, two skeleton arguments, and preparing cross-examination notes.

EU Law

  • Alice provided ongoing advice to the Ministry of Defence in negotiations with the European Commission and Republic of Cyprus on the implementation of EU law in the Sovereign Base Areas post-Brexit.

Alice is interested in expanding her costs and litigation funding practice. She has appeared in a variety of costs matters, including acting for the Lord Chancellor in a number of costs cases brought against the Legal Aid Agency, providing written submissions and appearing before the Senior Courts Costs Office.

Alice accepts instructions on a range of commercial contract matters.

In her time at the Government Legal Department, Alice provided risk-based advice on the negotiation and management of various public contracts. While seconded to Blackstone Chambers during her pupillage, Alice gained experience across a range of commercial cases, including civil fraud.

Alice is a member of the Young Fraud Lawyers Association.

Alice has an interest in regulatory and disciplinary law. She regularly accepts instructions from professional regulatory bodies.

Alice recently acted for the Attorney General of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia in a judicial review concerning a police disciplinary matter.

During pupillage she prepared a comprehensive speaking note for the Court of Appeal in a financial services case, and assisted her supervisor in preparing an advice relating to the Financial Ombudsman Service’s jurisdiction. Prior to coming to the bar, Alice worked as an investigator for the Financial Ombudsman Service, and is interested in expanding her practice in financial regulation.

Alice is developing a broad personal injury and clinical negligence practice. She provides advice, drafts pleadings, and appears at interim and final hearings, including in cases concerning catastrophic injuries, the Fatal Accidents Act, and personal injury at work.

She acts for the NHS, insurers, and individuals, both led and as sole counsel.

Alice frequently appears in the County Courts in personal injury matters and road traffic disputes.

Alice has provided extensive advice to the Home Office on several large procurements under the Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contracts Regulations 2015, and is keen to further expand her procurement practice.
