High Court hears five challenges to plans for a third runway at Heathrow

Five judicial review claims concerning the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling's, decision to designate the Airports National Policy Statement ('ANPS') are currently being heard by Lord Justice Hickinbottom and Mr Justice Holgate in the High Court. The decision is significant because in the ANPS the Secretary of State supports a third runway at Heathrow.

The claim is being brought in relation to issues of air quality, noise, climate change and other impacts on the local communities, as well as London more broadly.

39 Essex Chambers' Nigel Pleming QC, Catherine Dobson and Stephanie David are representing five local authorities, Greenpeace and the Mayor of London. Stephen Tromans QC has also acted for the Mayor in these proceedings.
