Stephen Tromans KC leads group for newly published Position Paper on radioactive waste from new reactors

The Government's Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) recently published its Position Paper addressing the radioactive waste management implications from the development of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) and advanced modular reactors (AMRs). SMRs and AMRs are a critical component of the government’s strategy to achieve net zero. Stephen Tromans KC led a small group which produced the Paper, providing recommendations to consider as SMR and AMR deployment is progressed. The Paper, which has already attracted industry interest, concludes that at present insufficient attention is being given to how the range of wastes from new reactors, AMRs in particular, will be managed and ultimately disposed of.
