About the Event

We discuss and reflect on the decision of the High Court in Abrahart v University of Bristol [2024] EWHC 299 on appeal from Bristol County Court.

Handed down on 14 February 2024, the High Court considers the overarching question of a University’s duty of care towards its students. Emily Formby KC, Steve Broach and Ian Brownhill will provide you with an early exploration of the decision and its implications. They will also look at:

  • issues relating to safeguarding, inquests and civil liability;
  • impact of the Equality Act 2010;
  • statutory and common law torts;
  • scope of anticipatory duty; and
  • the relevance of actual and constructive knowledge

There will also be an opportunity for questions and discussion. Questions can be sent in advance to events@39essex.com or during the webinar using Zoom’s Q&A function.
