AIAC Webinar: Predicting the Future through the Looking-Glass of Past Recessions
The Hon. Wayne Martin AC QC, David Bateson and Swee Im Tan joined a panel of presenters for this webinar, part of a series hosted by the Asian International Arbitration Centre, on Monday, 18th May 2020 at 16:00 MYT (GMT+8).
The novel COVID-19 pandemic is something many of us believed to be stories reserved for Hollywood movies and not real life. However, this is not the first time we have had economic downturns either due to a pandemic or market crash. One element that was not as prominent in the past was the use of Third-Party Funding, the use of which in international arbitration has gained traction over the past decade. During this session, we hear from dispute resolution experts who have all dealt with recessions and its aftermath in the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, they discuss how Third-Party Funding can assist parties in bringing their disputes and whether it will make a difference. The speakers explain how the past panned out, the trends between past and present, and their predictions on the current situation's future.
