Summary: This case (brought to our attention by the editor of Mentalhealthlaw) merits brief mention as a cautionary tale. One of the grounds upon which the social worker in question was suspended for 12 months for misconduct was because the Conduct Committee was satisfied that he had failed to ensure that an application for a Court of Protection order in respect of a service user was made expeditiously or at all for a period of a period of some 17 months. As the social worker admitted the charge, there is no further detail to be found on the GSCC website as to the circumstances of Mr Z and/or as to what order should have been sought.
