Members of 39 Essex Chambers are instructed in a legal challenge by a young girl with autism as to the circumstances of her detention.

Victoria Butler-Cole and Katherine Apps have been instructed to act in a legal challenge to the circumstances of the detention of a young girl with autism, Bethany, currently detained under the Mental Health Act, where she has allegedly been resident in a seclusion unit for a large proportion of her detention since 2016.

Victoria and Katherine were first instructed by Catriona Filmer of Mencap Legal (Families) team and subsequently by Bindmans LLP. The proposed litigation is being supported and funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
