On 29 April 2021, Parliament passed the Fire Safety Act 2021 (the “Act”). The Act has been introduced to amend the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (the “RRO”) as a result of the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2017. The provisions of the Act will not come into force until the Secretary of State appoints a date by way of statutory regulations.

The purpose of the Act is to clarify what areas of a building come within the purview of those responsible for managing and reducing fire risks in different parts of multi-occupied residential buildings, to prevent future tragedies occurring.
