All six related claims, brought by a number of serving or former police officers who alleged they had been subjected to harassment by their Detective Chief Inspector, were dismissed.  The trial of liability, which also touched on matters of causation, ran for five weeks.  The outcome has been described as “hugely important to police officers regionally and nationally” not least because a large number of the allegations stemmed from the junior officer’s disapproval of operational decisions made by their DCI meaning that the claims, if successful, could have undermined rank-based policing.
