James Potts appeared successfully for conservation charity SAVE Britain’s Heritage in resisting plans to demolish over 400 Victorian houses in the Welsh Streets in Liverpool, including most of the street where Ringo Starr was born.
The controversial scheme was called in by the Secretary of State, and a three-week combined planning and CPO inquiry was held last summer.
The Secretary of State placed considerable weight on the cultural and social significance of the Welsh Streets, after research by SAVE’s experts revealed that they were masterplanned by prolific Welsh architect Richard Owens, in addition to their popularity with Beatles tourists.
