Junior Clerk/ Office Assistant

Salary starts at: £23,283 (London Living Wage)

Location: London

Hours: 42.5 Hour week on a rota between 8.00am and 6.30pm

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful and proactive clerking team. We are recruiting for a Junior Clerk/ Office Assistant to join a team of five. 39 Essex Chambers is a modern, well established barristers’ chambers based in Chancery Lane in Central London. The position offers an ideal opportunity for entry into practice management or other administrative roles in chambers, with excellent career progression potential.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident individual who has an interest in a career in the legal profession. The day to day role involves a varied range of administrative and office duties, including but not limited to:

  • Printing, copying and scanning of Bundles for Court and Barristers, including research of Legislation and Case Law.
  • Assisting barristers’ with their papers to and from court
  • Lodging and exchange of Skeleton Arguments and other legal documents; becoming familiar with Court buildings and the location of the various courts and tribunals throughout London.
  • Supporting the clerking team in the administration of barristers’ practises by entering relevant case data into LEX (chambers’ electronic diary and finance system)
  • Assisting at and attending events to increase knowledge of practice areas and clients
  • Organising and distributing post and parcels, including organising couriers as necessary
  • Carrying out general external messenger duties
  • Providing administrative support as necessary

The skills required for this job include: accuracy, determination, confidence, good communication skills, an excellent telephone manner, ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, resilience, enthusiasm, good IT skills and a ‘can do’ attitude.

3 A Level Grade C or above (or equivalent) are highly preferred with a minimum of 5 Grade C (4) or above GCSEs including Maths and English essential. Applications from graduates in any subject welcomed.
