Emergency Cover Panel – Office Assistants

Overview

Chambers invites applications for the position of Office Assistant on the Emergency Cover Panel.  Office Assistants on the panel will be required to cover a varied number of roles depending on staff absences and resources.

The nature of this role means that there are no fixed hours or number of days to work per year. Members of the panel would be contacted when there is a business need, such as temporary increased work load or staff shortages. Because the work is sporadic, members of the panel will be contacted, often at short notice, to see if they are available to come into the office.

Duties are varied but include reception duties, data input, copying and preparation of court bundles, internal and external postal duties and general administrative duties.   The role can be physically demanding.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be able to work in a busy and demanding environment, be able to prioritise and be available to work at short notice.  Good communication skills and a professional approach are essential.  A basic understanding of office software is desirable.

Contract Terms & Benefits

  • The position is paid at an hourly rate of £10.55 (gross).
  • 39 Essex Chambers opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm.
