R (on the application of James Caspian) v Bath Spa University and the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education

The High Court has refused a renewed application for permission to claim judicial review of a university's decision to reject proposed research on reverse gender reassignment. The proposal was rejected on grounds of research ethics.

The claimant former master's student argued that the decision breached his freedom of expression and was contrary to the principle of academic freedom. He also argued that decisions  on research ethics were not matters of academic judgment.
