Speaker information
Richard Spearman QC has a wide ranging general commercial and common law practice. He has appeared in many high profile and reported cases, including Bruce Grobbelaar v NGN, Naomi Campbell v MGN, Cream Holdings v Banerjee, and Roman Polanski v Conde Nast in the House of Lords, as well as advising on and appearing in litigation overseas and in commercial, media and sport arbitrations. He was shortlisted for “Barrister of the Year” in 2003, was Legal 500 IP, IT and Media Silk of the Year 2013, and is recommended in Chambers & Partners in: Media and Entertainment (Band 1); Defamation and Privacy (Band 1); Data Protection (Band 1) and Sport, and in the Legal 500 in: Defamation and Privacy (Band 1); Media and Entertainment and Sport (Band 1); Administrative and Public Law; and Fraud (Civil). He is a Recorder and a Deputy High Court Judge (Chancery Division).
David Melville QC is elected head of the 75+ member strong Civil Liability Group at Thirty Nine Essex Street. He mainly deals with high value personal injury, clinical negligence and fraud cases, acting for both claimants and defendants. David has developed a particular interest in Mitchell, and has survived a recent determined but misguided attempt by the NHSLA to strike out one of his clinical negligence cases. Chambers & Partners 2014 describes him as “a brilliant, impressive and very imaginative silk who is totally accessible, straightforward and very entertaining.”
Vikram Sachdeva acted for one of the successful Appellants in the conjoined Denton v White appeals. He taught law at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities, and is Junior Counsel to the Crown (A Panel). He has a wide ranging specialist practice in public law and human rights, regulatory and disciplinary, financial services, commercial law, and costs. He is recommended as a leading junior in Administrative and Public Law, Professional Discipline and Costs in the Legal 500 2014, and for Court of Protection and Costs in Chambers UK 2014. He is described as “a great advocate who can think fast on his feet” and “[e]xtremely clever” by the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners respectively.
