On 19th July the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) launched its joint “Pathfinder” initiative with the MHCLG following the  Chief Planner’s July Newsletter announcement. Its purpose is to help manage its current enforcement workload by encouraging the parties in suitable appeals to allow the cases to be referred to mediation. John Pugh-Smith FCIArb, long-experienced both as a planning barrister as well as a mediator, has both co-ordinated this initiative and is also a member of the fledgling panel (administered jointly by CIArb and RICS).
