Planned changes to day care services for disabled adults in Barnet have been stopped after Your Choice Barnet, the provider of community care services to residents in Barnet, agreed to reverse its decision to merge two centres following a challenge brought by a group of disabled people, whose quality of life would have been affected by the proposed merger.
Jonathan Auburn represented Barnet Resident Susan Sullivan, who receives a package of non-residential care services for five days a week. There would have been no practical alternatives to using services offered by Your Choice Barnet.
Susan’s father, John, had attended all of the relevant meetings during the consultation process but it has become apparent that key information regarding how the cuts would affect the services. In fact, he had been told that there would be no effect on the service users when a previous Equality Impact Assessment had identified potentially negative impacts for them.
