Following John Steel QC’s full and independent review of the application to expand Luton London Airport have won government backing. The plan was backed by Luton Council in December but Communities Secretary Eric Pickles asked to review the decision. That the plan has been backed by the Communities Secretary is “a real vote of confidence in the airport and its future”.
The council’s impartiality had been challenged as the borough owns all of the shares in London Luton Airport (which owns the airport infrastructure). The council maintained its role as a planning authority was entirely separate from that of Shareholder and appointed John Steel QC to full independent review of the application.
