39 Essex Chambers announced today that Peter Turner KC will join the set as counsel, avocat and arbitrator

Peter Turner KC Announcement

After 27 years as an arbitration partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Peter is joining 39 Essex Chambers to pursue a career as counsel and arbitrator at the Bar of England and Wales. He will also continue to practise as counsel and avocat in Paris and to take arbitral appointments.

Peter practised as an English Solicitor and French avocat à la cour at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and was appointed King’s Counsel in 2015. He graduated from the University of Cambridge.

39 Essex Chambers’ Chief Executive Officer, Lindsay Scott noted: “We are delighted that such an excellent and experienced practitioner as Peter has joined the 39 family. The appointment of Peter will further strengthen our international, investment treaty and commercial teams.”

About his move, Peter said, “I am rather emotional about leaving Freshfields, where I have practised for so many happy years with such wonderful colleagues, but I am very excited about having the freedom to take matters on, whether in arbitration or the courts, in England and France, without the constraints of being a partner in a big firm.”
