Hospital successfully applies for permission to perform emergency Caesarean Section to save mother

CategoryNews Author Vikram Sachdeva QC Date

A health authority, represented by Vikram Sachdeva, has secured permission to perform an emergency Caesarean Section on a 36 year-old paranoid schizophrenic who had been detained under the Mental Capacity Act and who the judge ruled lacked the capacity to make the decision herself.

The medical team will try and induce labour immediately to allow the patient to attempt a natural childbirth, but wanted to have the option of performing an emergency Caesarean Section should it prove necessary to protect the life of mother or child.
