Peter Village QC and James Strachan QC, acting on behalf of London Ashford Airport (LAA), have successfully persuaded the Secretaries of State for Communities and Local Government and Transport to grant planning permission for LAA’s proposals for a runway extension and new passenger terminal to enable a new commercial airport to commence at LAA. The Secretaries of State rejected concerns by RSPB, Natural England, CPRE and a local action group. In particular, the Secretaries of State accepted LAA’s submissions that there would be no significant effects on the SAC, pRAMSAR, SPA, pSPA, or the SSSIs. Further, there would be no harm by virtue of the site’s proximity to the Dungeness Nuclear Power Station and have no significant effects on the landscape or tranquillity.
