Gordon Nardell QC gave a seminar for the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators on the 22nd April entitled ‘Investment Treaty Arbitration – An Introduction’. The event was chaired by Yu-jinTay, DLA Piper’s Global Co-Chair of International Arbitration. The seminar coincides with heightened regional interest in investment treaty disputes, with Singapore recently hosting hearings in the hard-fought Philip Morris v. Australia arbitration. The seminar placed in perspective recent and anticipated developments in investment arbitration including the scale of recent compensation awards, the on-going BG v. Argentina dispute, challenges to arbitrator impartiality, and the implications of the proposed EU-US FTA.
