Fracking planning applications rejected by Lancashire County Council

CategoryNews Author Richard Harwood OBE KC Date

Lancashire County Council have refused planning permission for two shale gas sites proposed by Cuadrilla.  Permission was refused for four exploration wells at Roseacre Wood, Roseacre, because of highways impacts, in accordance with the report which can be found by clicking here.

Even greater public attention was focussed on an application for four exploration wells at Preston New Road, Little Plumpton, see the report by clicking here.

The committee meeting on that application was adjourned following legal advice obtained by the Council.  Richard Harwood QC was then instructed by Friends of the Earth to advise on the decisions open to the committee.  His advice is published here.

Subsequently the committee refused the Preston New Road scheme on landscape and noise grounds. Read the Telegraph article here.

Litigation over hydrocarbon exploration at Balcombe, West Sussex is discussed by Richard Wald and Catherine Dobson at paragraphs 89 to 91 of this Environmental Law Update.
