AQUIND Interconnector DCO Decision Secretary of State Refusal 20 January 2022

On 20 January the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Kwasi Kwarteng issued his decision under the Planning Act 2008 to refuse AQUIND Ltd’s application for a development consent order for   a 2,000MW bi-directional electrical power transmission link (an interconnector) between France and England. Celina Colquhoun acted for Portsmouth City Council one of the principal authorities affected by and objecting to the DCO whose land was also proposed for compulsory acquisition  .

The DCO examination began in September 2020 and ended in March 2021. The examining authority’s report in June 2021 had recommended approval of the project.
