39 Essex Chambers is delighted to announce that Alison Foster QC has been elected Joint Head of Chambers alongside Neil Block QC. The first female to be elected to the position, she takes over from Stephen Tromans QC who stepped down officially today.
Alison Foster QC was called to the Bar in 1984 and took Silk in 2002. Alison has built a highly successful court and advisory practice in public and administrative law with particular involvement in regulation and tax both domestically and in other jurisdictions. She is consistently recommended in the legal directories as a ‘Leading Silk’ in each of these specialisms. In August 2014 Alison was named The Times ‘Lawyer of the Week’ when, instructed by Liberty, she won the Attorney General’s fiat and the Court’s Order for a new inquest into the Deepcut Barracks’ death almost 20 years ago of Private Cheryl James.
