Achieving accessible justice through effective participation in courts and tribunals

Achieving accessible justice through effective participation in courts and tribunals

CategoryNews Author Penny Cooper B.Sc. (Hons), Ph.D. Date

Birkbeck’s Institute for Crime and Justice Policy Research (ICPR) has published a new book which examines the meanings and importance of ‘effective participation’ in judicial proceedings.

‘Participation in Courts and Tribunals: Concepts, Realities and Aspirations’, co-edited by Penny Cooper and Jessica Jacobson, addresses what exactly it means to participate in judicial proceedings, why participation matters, and what factors impede, and conversely, support participation.

The book is available here from Bristol University Press as a hardback and as a free, open access e-book. Also available online are a policy briefing based on the research findings, and a practitioner toolkit.
