An Introduction to International Arbitration
The seminar will examine the principle elements of international arbitration and will highlight the various pitfalls that such arbitrations may hold to for those not familiar with the unique nature of international work.
In particular it will examine:
(i) the difference between domestic and international arbitrations;
(ii) which laws may apply to various different aspects of the arbitration;
(iii) the difference between ad hoc and institutional arbitrations;
(iv) the roles of institutions and international laws in governing international arbitrations.
(v) the enforcement of international arbitration awards under the New York Convention
Charles Manzoni has a broad practice with a particular emphasis on arbitration, litigation or mediation of complex construction, engineering, professional negligence actions, and related commercial matters. He is a qualified engineer as well as a barrister. He is entitled to, and regularly does, practice in both the UK and Hong Kong courts. He is cited in various legal directories and other publications, in both the UK and Asia, as a leading junior in construction and engineering work. He sits as an arbitrator in both domestic and international arbitrations.

Kahara Bodas Company v Pertamina – International Enforcement in 5 jurisdictions of an International Award worth US$500 million.
Sahib Foods v Paskin Kiyriakides Sands – £17 million loss arising from the professional negligence of an architect refurbishing a factory.
Adam Robb’s commercial and construction practice includes the arbitration and litigation of disputes arising out of corporate restructuring, merger and acquisition, insurance, professional negligence, sale of goods and construction. He has experience of disputes in a number of commercial and industrial sectors including telecoms, oil and gas and power.
He is appointed to the Attorney General’s panel of counsel (B Panel).
