Described by Chambers & Partners 2017 as "magnificent, a superb advocate", Paul specialises in complex cases, in all types and levels of tribunals, across the world.

Paul has been involved in some of the world's most difficult construction and commercial cases. His extensive practice also includes international arbitration, property damage, professional negligence, procurement and sports law. He has represented clients in the Commercial Court, the Technology and Construction Court, the Chancery Division, the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the Supreme Court in Dublin, the High Court in Northern Ireland (he is a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland) and Arbitration Tribunals globally. Paul also sits as arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator.

He is a Bencher of the Middle Temple and Chairman of the Association of British Bookmakers. He is a previous Chairman of the Technology and Construction Bar Association and the Sports Ground Safety Authority. He was awarded an OBE in 2015.

Paul's arrival at 39 Essex Chambers further highlights the dynamic growth of the set and, particularly, its commercial and construction group.

Paul says of his move "I am delighted to be joining 39 Essex Chambers. My practice, which focusses on advocacy in both the commercial and construction fields, is a perfect fit with Chambers. I know many members of Chambers well and am very much looking forward to continuing my practice there.

39 Essex Chambers' Chief Executive and Director of Clerking, David Barnes, says: "The Members are thrilled that Paul is joining Chambers. His reputation in the commercial and construction law arena precedes him and his expertise will further enhance Chambers' offering in these areas, both domestically and internationally."
