Jess has acted in a wide range of commercial, construction and insurance disputes, both as sole counsel, and as a junior in a large legal team. She has advised and appeared in complex and high value litigation in the Commercial Court, Mercantile Court and TCC. She has also been involved in arbitrations, adjudications, mediations and early neutral evaluations. She has extensive oral advocacy experience, including cross-examination of expert witnesses.
Before coming to the Bar, Jess worked in the Equity Research department of Credit Suisse First Boston and Citigroup in Paris and London, analysing the financial prospects of mid-cap engineering and aerospace companies. She subsequently spent 7 months on secondment to the Financial Services Authority, where she advised in relation to various matters, with a particular focus on insurance.
Jess has been appointed to the Attorney General's C-panel, through which she has primarily undertaken work on behalf of HM Customs & Excise. She also accepts instructions to act on behalf of appellants in VAT matters.
Jess has extensive regulatory and public law experience, including in relation to procurement and human rights.
