Karen practises mainly in the fields of building and engineering contract disputes and professional negligence claims, specialising in construction, or construction related disputes. She has experience of most standard forms of building and engineering contracts. She has represented a wide range of clients in practice including contractors, sub-contractors, governments, government agencies, local authorities, educational institutions and major commercial organisations. Her work has included disputes concerning private domestic developments, major public works, water, sewage and power plants, hospitals, prisons, nuclear facilities, roads, sea wall defences, railway stations and infrastructure, shopping centres, factories, residential and general commercial developments. She has extensive experience of litigation and arbitration, both as counsel and as arbitrator, as well as experience with a number of different domestic and international ADR processes. In domestic arbitration she has experience with most domestic forms of arbitration rules and procedures. She also has extensive experience of international commercial arbitration, dealing in particular with substantial construction disputes, especially under the FIDIC conditions of contract. She was President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators from 2001-02. Karen is also an accredited TECBAR and CEDR adjudicator and has undertaken a number of adjudications.
