Planning permission granted for 35 homes at Sherborne

Environment
Planning and Property

Outline planning permission has been granted on appeal for a 35 home scheme on land to the north of Bradford Road, Sherborne.  Planning permission had been refused on landscape and noise grounds on what was an agricultural field between existing housing the A30.  Noise issues were resolved prior to the appeal hearing.  Following a hearing, the Inspector found that there would be harm to the character and appearance of the area, but that the moderate level of weight to be attached to this did not significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits of the proposal and the scheme represented sustainable development. Paragraph 14 of the National Planning Policy Framework applied as there was no current five year housing land supply.

Richard Harwood QC appeared for the appellant, Catesby Property Group at the hearing, instructed by DPDS.
