Anna has been practising since 2005. She is a public law specialist, with particular emphasis on education matters. She is currently junior counsel at the IICSA working on the residential schools investigation.
Anna also has extensive experience of Court of Protection work, providing training on DOLS and other aspects of the COP to local authorities and organisations.
Anna is an education law specialist. She appears regularly in the FTT, Upper Tribunal and High Court on education related matters. She also advises on all areas of education law, including issues such as special educational needs, disability discrimination, admissions and exclusions, educational negligence and matters related to Academies, Further Education and Higher Education. Anna regularly provides training sessions for local authorities on special educational needs and discrimination.
Anna was a contributor to Richard McManus’ academic handbook “Education and the Courts” the third edition of which was published in December 2012.
Anna regularly appears in the Court of Protection, appearing for both local authorities, individuals, NHS Trusts and the Official Solicitor. She has extensive experience of DOLS related matters and has acted in many complex section 21A challenges with related Human Rights Act damages claims. Anna is one of the editors of the 39 Essex Chambers Mental Capacity Report.
Anna has a particular interest in data protection and freedom of information. During a one year sabbatical in a law firm in Brussels, Anna advised on this area of law from a European perspective. Anna contributed to the new edition of Philip Coppel’s Information Rights textbook.
Anna has wide experience of all areas of Employment Law ranging from standard unfair dismissal cases, to more complex TUPE and discrimination matters and has a high rate of success in the Employment Tribunal. She has acted in a number of lengthy discrimination cases, including claims of associative disability. Anna regularly advises employment solicitors acting for both individuals and large and small employers.
Anna has developed a specialism in education related employment matters. She has acted in a number of cases for schools and local authorities defending discrimination claims.
Over a number of years, Anna has provided advice to local authorities on a wide range of public law issues including education, community care, mental health, data protection and environmental protection. She has been involved in a number of judicial review cases representing local authorities.
